The Monster: Chapter 4

An hour later Wilma came downstairs.

“Am I not going to school today?”

“I decided to keep you home,” Jen said casually.

Wilma looked at her with suspicion.

     “Why?”

“Just because,” Jen said, since she didn’t have a better reason handy. There was no way she was going to show weakness. Wilma would go for the kill if there was any opening in her armor.

“I want to go to school,” Wilma said. “It’s ice cream day.”

“Well, you’re not going, so I guess you missed out on ice cream day. Go and get dressed now, we’re going to the store in a minute.”

Wilma’s lower lip started to quiver.

“I hate you, stupid fake mommy. I hope you die of new mania.”

     “It’s called pneumonia,” Jen said.

“My real mommy says you will die of new mania because you wear short skirts. My real mommy says you dress like a sloth.”

“It’s called slut. Go and get dressed.”
