“Well, that was different,” Florence said and took another sip of champagne.
“Certainly not what I had expected,” Nicole said.
“So what just happened?” Madeleine said. “Did Bobby commit suicide because we refused him?”
Marvin, who had stayed calm through the entire episode, smiled in a smug way.
“There’s a perfectly natural explanation,” he said. “The thing in the cage is, or rather, was Cedric. He gave me back my soul earlier today. Then I simply used the techniques that Cedric and Bobby taught me to ‘borrow’ Bobby’s soul and put it inside Cedric. I then super-glued the things mouth shut, so he couldn’t rat on me. Bobby, of course, didn’t remember any of this. He thought my soul was still in the thing in the cage. And there you have it, Bob’s your uncle.”
“Oh Marvin,” Florence chirped. “You’re so clever.”
“I’ll call house keeping and have them remove the body,” Marvin said. “Now, let’s continue the party. No point in letting the food go to waste. More champagne, anyone?’
