Soul Searching: Chapter 7
The next day after classes were over Cedric went to visit Bobby Fulton. Bobby was very happy to see him.
“You managed to escape from Marvin,” he said.
“I used the method from Tibet and borrowed his soul,” Cedric explained.
“That would explain what happened. Marvin, every teachers’ darling, ended up in detention for the first time ever. His teachers were complaining that he was inattentive and distracted in class, and that’s not acceptable behavior at Allerton. I think he might still be in detention.”
Cedric went on telling Bobby about his new soulful experience.
“I feel like a better, more complete individual,” he said. “And the world has become a more beautiful place, with vivid colors, pleasing shapes and clear sounds ever since I borrowed the soul.“
He went on to describe how he was overcome with benevolence and compassion toward his fellow creatures, and how his existence seemed to have a purpose beyond merely being alive.
“I only wish my pine-cone siblings could experience this too, if only for a moment,” he said.
“Maybe you should borrow a few more souls then?” Bobby suggested.
“I suppose I could, but how? It was only by chance that I got close enough to Marvin to use the mantras. It doesn’t seem likely that others would be as easily accessible.”
“I think I know a way,” Bobby said. “Since you have Marvin’s soul in your possession you can control him if you’re close enough to him. You could use him to borrow the additional souls for your pine-cone friends’ benefit.”
